My own adventures have taken me to some remarkable places and presented some memorable challenges. Here are some of my personal highlights.
I’ve summited Mount Toubkal, a 13,500 foot mountain in Morocco, successfully completing both a summer and winter ascent.
I have navigated the souks of Marrakesh, and experienced a guest house in the berber village of Imlil.
I have hiked across the dramatic landscapes of Mauritius exploring Le Pouce and Le Morne Brabant, which included some scrambling to the summit.
I have tackled the booking process of the iconic PR hikes in Madeira, to the Levada walks forests, tunnels (head torch required) and waterfalls.
I’ve explored the Julian Alps of Slovenia from the magical Kranjska Gora, to the heights of Ciprnik to the tri-border of Slovenia, Austria and Italy. My exploration took me to the incredible capital Ljubljana.
I have taken a train through the Alps and crossed the border from Trieste into Slovenia.
I’ve been blessed to visit the pristine beaches of Thailand, and I have explored many of the stunning Andaman Islands. My journey between these islands was by traditional longtail boats crewed by local fisherman with some dolphin spotting along the way.
My love of Italian food, travel, culture and language has drawn us back to Italy time and again, with visits to Venice, Verona, Treviso, Bergamo and Lake Garda.
Closer to home, completing a 50km hike across the South Downs in a single day was certainly a test of endurance. I’ve also now completed 13 half marathons — achievements that have strengthened my love of adventure, challenge and the excitement of discovering somewhere new.
The Brecon Beacons always gives us a new hiking opportunity along with fantastic food and community.
For me, life is about embracing those opportunities — stepping outside your comfort zone, challenging yourself, experiencing different cultures and creating memories that stay with you. There are always new places to discover, new challenges to overcome and new experiences waiting around the corner. I intend to keep exploring, keep challenging myself and, above all, never lose that sense of curiosity and wonder about what might be next.
